Ex-Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi appointed KDC board chair

Board says he brings a wealth of expertise from public and private sector.

Former Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi has been appointed as chairman of the Kenya Development Corporation Board.

In a statement on Thursday, the Board said Bunyasi brings a wealth of expertise and experience from both the public and the private sectors. 

"He has a proven record as an exceptional leader with a visionary approach and dedication to economic development, which aligns perfectly with KDC’s strategic goals."

The former lawmaker welcomed the appointment saying he is deeply honoured.

"I look forward to working closely with the board members and the dedicated team at the corporation to ensure we achieve our objectives and help the Country’s growth in manufacturing, increase exports and attract foreign direct investments," he said.

The board said it had also appointed Norah Buyaki Ratemo as the Director General of the corporation.

Ratemo said she was delighted to take up the exciting challenge with a critical awareness of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

"We have an opportunity to build a world-class organization that is fit for purpose to support the Government on the Bottom up Economic Transformation Agenda in partnership with various developmental partners and our Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry and KDC Board, " she said.

Ratemo has over 15 years of experience in Credit Risk Management having formerly worked in various institutions including, Eco Bank Kenya, Sidian Bank, and Tourism Finance Corporation.

She holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration with a Finance option from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and a Bachelor of Commerce with an Accounting option.

Ratemo is also a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and the Institute of Certified Investment Financial Analysts (ICIFA).

The KDC board said it had further appointed new members to the Board who would bring a wealth of diverse skills and industry experience to the corporation.

They are Faith Mwaura, Sigee Koech, Caroline Muigai, and Benjamin Muketha.

The board said they will work together with State Department for Investments Promotion, Ministry of Investments Trade and Industry PS Abubakar Hassan Abubakar, alternate Director to the Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury and Planning, Michael Kahika and Judith Kerich.

"These appointees are passionate about the sustainable socio-economic development of this country, and their shared vision will undoubtedly propel KDC to become the engine of Kenya’s economic growth," KDC said.
