Embakasi East MP Babu Owino's lawyer Ndegwa Njiru now claims that they have been denied access to the legislator, who is being held at the Nairobi Area police station.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Ndegwa who spoke outside the police station said that they had also been denied access to the police station.

He noted the police have also not told Babu why they have him arrested, despite being in police custody for over 24 hours.

"I can confirm that my client Babu Owino is held at the police area in Nairobi. The police have refused to allow us access to the police station. They have blocked us even as lawyers," Ndegwa said.

"We have no right to see our client. He has no right to be represented even in that particular police station. They have completely refused and have not told him why he's being arrested."

The lawyer expressed discontent with the way his client has been treated by police.

He said that even if he was a terrorist, he deserves representation, which is a human right.

"For all purposes and intent, even if he was a terrorist he is guaranteed the bare minimum of the protection of his rights among them being presented in court in time."

Before Babu was moved to Nairobi, Ndegwa told the press that he had met and talked to his client who at the time was at Wang'uru police station.

The Embakasi East MP was arrested on Tuesday evening at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), soon after he landed from Mombasa.

He was among Azimio leaders, aides and supporters arrested to avert the three-day protests that had been announced by the Opposition.
