Ruto officially takes over as new KPA Managing Director

The position of MD at KPA has been vacant for the last 3 years.

Pomp and colour at the Kenya Ports Authority headquarters in Mombasa as staff prepare to welcome the newly appointed Managing Director, Captain William Ruto.

Ruto who was appointed last week by Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen will on Monday take over from acting MD John Mwangemi.

The new KPA MD arrived at the Moi International Airport at 7.30 am and proceeded to the Port where he held a meeting with the chairman of the Board in his office.

Together with the chairman and the outgoing acting MD, they will address staff outside the headquarter buildings from 9.15 am.

The position of MD at KPA has been vacant for the last 3 years. During this period, to ensure the continuity of KPA’s businesses, the board made several appointments to the position in an acting capacity.

Capt. William Ruto holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Strategic Management option from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

He is an associate fellow of the Nautical Institute (AF-NI) and a member of the International Harbour Master’s Association (UK) and has attained the highest qualification as a Ship Captain (Class 1 Master Mariner) from South Tyneside Marine College, UK.

Capt. Ruto is a seasoned mariner having started his career in 1991 at KPA as a Cadet Marine Deck Officer before rising through the ranks to be a General Manager, Operations and later a Harbour Master.

Until this appointment, he was the General Manager of the Kisumu Port.
