Ronald Odhiambo, son of former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, has been acquitted of stocking adulterated petroleum products after Energy Regulatory Commission witnesses failed to show up in court.
The police were also not enthusiastic about the case, noted Milimani chief magistrate Francis Andayi.
“In the circumstances, and since the court has not had any witness in the matter, I therefore have the case terminated. The accused is consequently acquitted under section 202 of the Criminal Procedure Code and his Sh100,000 bail refunded,” Andayi said.
Ronald was arrested and arraigned in August last year after motorist David Nyamu complained to the police that he had been sold adulterated fuel at Shell Petrol Station on Kiambu Road in Ridgeways.
The filling station is associated with Ronald Odhiambo Kidero.
Police visited the petrol station and found 14,000 litres of diesel and 28,000 litres of petrol which allegedly did not meet Kenya Bureau of Standards specifications.
The hearing was adjourned to March 23, this year, but the proceedings did not take place due to missing police file and absent witnesses.
