Popular Kalenjin musician Keneny, five dancers perish in accident

Grief has engulfed the Kalenjin community after apopular secular musician Weldon Cheruiyot of Keneny Internationalalongside his five dancers perished in a road accident. Upcoming musician Nicho Embassy also died in the same accident along the notorious Nakuru-Eldoret highway. The accident occurred near Kamara centre around 8.

Grief has engulfed the Kalenjin community after a

popular secular musician Weldon Cheruiyot of Keneny International

alongside his five dancers perished in a road accident.

Upcoming musician Nicho Embassy also died in the same accident along the notorious Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

The accident occurred near Kamara centre around 8.30pm when their Probox vehicle collided head-on with a transit lorry heading to Nairobi.

The lorry's occupants survived the accident.

Kamara locational chief Joseph Korir said the artists were

going to

a function in Ilotir near Timboroa in Koibatek sub-county.

"All the occupants of the probox died instantly as their vehicle was crashed completely,

the occupants of the lorry survived.

It was a shocking scene because the probox could not be visualized as it had been destroyed completely", he said.

The bodies were taken to Molo sub-county mortuary while the wreckage was towed to

Mau Summit police station.

Cheruiyot popularly known as

Keneny is one of the celebrated musicians in the community.

He is well known for his song " Ngwany Chomyeet ko ki nee wee".

The accident comes barely a week after deputy president's wife Rachel Ruto together with the clergy made special prayers at Salgaa black spot.

Hundreds of Kenyans have perished along the road in the past.

The Kalenjin community has lost musicians among them Junior Kotestes and Diana Chelele.

Nakuru Deputy Governor Dr Erick Korir has sent his condolences to the musicians.

"We are sad for the loss of our hero who we recently met at a function in Mauche," he said.

Korir said Keneny was a hardworking and focused musician.
