Seven people died when a matatu driver rammed into another matatu in a bid to stop it from picking passengers in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga county.

The driver of the first matatu had reportedly stopped at an undesignated place outside the bus-stop, when the management of Kukena Sacco sent the second to deter him.

Both matatus belong to the Sacco.

The driver rammed into the rear of the first matatu killing six people on the spot while the seventh died in hospital.

Transport was paralysed at the Kerugoya town stage as members of the public vowed not to allow the Sacco to operate citing unruly matatu crew and appealed to NTSA to intervene.
