Covid-19: Kenya to receive second batch of supplies from Chinese billionaire Jack Ma

Donation includes ventilators, face shields, extraction kits and gloves.

Kenya is set to benefit from Chinese billionaire and Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma second round donation of equipment meant to help in combating the novel coronavirus.

The donation will be distributed to 54 countries in Africa. 

Jack Ma posted on his Twitter handle that the donations were on their way.

This includes 500 ventilators, 200,000 suits and face shields, 2,000 thermometers, one million swabs and extraction kits and 500,000 gloves.

 

The first round of donation arrived in the country on March 24 at the JKIA.

Among the equipment which were received included testing kits, protective gear and medical equipment.

The consignment, which arrived at JKIA from Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airlines flight consisted of 100,000 masks, 20,000 test kits and 1,000 protective gear.

The consignment was received by Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Kenya Meles Alem and the Director of Public Health Patrick Amoth.

Amoth said the donation will go a long way in the efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

President Uhuru Kenyatta appreciated the effort from the Chinese billionaire during his address from the State House on March 25.

"We are grateful to the many friends of Kenya across the globe like Jack Ma who donated testing kits and other equipment to support us in this battle," Uhuru said.

 

Kenya has so far reported 142 positive cases and four fatalities.

Four people have covered from the virus including Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi.
