Kenya Seed to unveil new varieties ahead of planting season

The company will be hosting their first golf series in Eldoret this Saturday

Kenya Seed is set to showcase their newly developed seed varieties during this year’s golf series.

The Trans Nzoia-based company will be hosting their first golf series in Eldoret this Saturday, to sell their new varieties to customers ahead of the planting season.

In a statement signed by company’s senior corporate communication officer Jane Gitau, the company will be unveiling the H6506 which is tolerant to Maize Lethal Disease.

Also, the drought tolerant KSDV01 maize variety, and chairman F1 (cabbage) which is tolerant to black rot.

“We are using golf to sell our new varieties and we are beginning in Uasin Gishu, one of our biggest markets in the region.

"The event will be graced by the managing director Fred Oloibe, who will award the winners of the tournament with enticing gift packs,” the statement read.

She said as the planting season approaches, farmers will be able to purchase all their seeds, including the new varieties.

Some of the seeds include; maize, H6213, H629 and wheat Ks Farasi, KS mwamba, pasture, boma rhodes, sunflower H8989, sorghum, E1291 and indigenous vegetables like Managu (black night shade).

The varieties contribute towards the company’s effort of achieving the Big Four Agenda on Food Security & Nutrition.

The parastatal was incorporated in Kenya on July 2, 1956. It produces and markets top quality certified seed for the country’s farming community.

The company has more than 60 different seed varieties ranging from maize, wheat, upland rice, pasture, sunflower, sorghum and millet.

It also has a wide range of horticultural seeds and indigenous vegetables suitable for different agro-ecological zones.

The seed varieties are availed to farmers in the country and beyond through a network of agents/ stockists, branches in Kenya.

The subsidiaries include (Simlaw Nairobi, Simlaw Uganda, Kibo Seed Tanzania and Kenya Seed Rwanda).
