Several faithful of the East Africa Pentecostal Church in Embu town were yesterday injured in a fight over its control.

Two groups of faithful, one led by the church overseer John Mugo and the other by Rev Muthee Kimotho, fought over which of them should conduct the service in the church.

During the two hours battle, the window panes and some were shattered as the two groups hurled stones and wood plunks at each other.

Eyewitnesses said trouble started when the group led by Mugo arrived and found the church locked with Kimotho and his followers inside.

They smashed the windows and doors to try and gain entry into the church.

Some of them sustained cuts on their hands and legs from the flying glass shards and wood planks.

Police were called and arrested Kimotho.

Kimotho said he and other worshippers were in the church when the other group came and demanded they be let into the church.

He said he had to shield his followers by ordering that the doors be locked from inside.

Kimotho said he has obtained a court order to block his removal from the church.

He said some leaders are “envious of his development record and want him removed from the church”.

The fight took place three months after Kimotho who has been transferred from the church locked out presiding Bishop Henry Muguna.

Kimotho locked out Muguna on April 12.

Embu West subcounty deputy police boss Terry Muchemi led the riot officers to the church.
