Dumas, Warriors clash at Nyayo in crucial tie

The 2023-24 Kenya National Basketball League playoffs throw off ON May 17, the Kenya Basketball Federation have announced.

Fixtures secretary Joseph Amoko said all regular season league fixtures are programmed to end on May 5.

“I want all the regular season matches to end on the weekend of May 5,” said Amoko.

“There is an invitational tournament planned for the following weekend (May 10-11) and once that is done, we will move straight to the playoffs.”

Due to time restrictions, they will not entertain postponement of matches but pointed out that if possible, there will be mid-week games planned for university teams.

“We will have some mid-week matches especially those involving university teams, who are currently on holiday.”

On Friday, Equity Bank Dumas battle former champions Ulinzi Warriors at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium at 6 pm.

Warriors' veteran playmaker Tiberious Menya said a win in this tie is important for the soldiers continued push for a third-place finish ahead of the playoffs.

The soldiers kept their slim hopes alive with a hard-fought 62-55 win over the University of Nairobi Terrorists and now must subject the bankers to their eighth defeat.

“Number one and two positions are sealed. No team wants to be fourth because that will mean playing Thunder and that is a path no one wants to take,” observed Menya.

He called on the team’s younger brigades to step up and take the mantle from the old guards.

Equity Bank dimmed a fighting UoN Terrorists 59-52 in a game that kept their hopes for a third-place finish on course.

Unbeaten Thunder thrashed Kenyatta University Pirates 77-52 to sit at the top of the 12-team table. Champions Kenya Ports Authority are second.

The KPA sides welcome Eldoret sides Platinum Eldonets and Eldonets.

Platinum lost 75-70 at home to USIU Tigers while Eldonets crashed 71-52 to Flames.
