Hospital Hill coach Emmanuel Wabuyabo has attributed their nail-biting 17-16 victory over Kamilili Boys to their relentless first-half pressure in the latest pool showdown at the Brookside National Secondary School Term One Games.
"Our boys were fired up and played with unwavering confidence. It was our relentless first-half pressure that sealed the win for us. By halftime, we had a commanding six-point lead," Wabuyabo emphasised.
Despite Kamilili's five goals in the second half narrowing the gap, it wasn't enough to tip the scales. Wabuyabo highlighted the team's mental preparation for the intense final match.
"I anticipated a fierce competition today. Mentally, I had primed the boys for a gruelling match," he underscored.
He also acknowledged Kamilili's physical advantage over his players, emphasising the motivational push they received before the match as pivotal to their triumph.
"Entering the game, we knew we were the underdogs. Our boys are shorter compared to Kamilili. So I encouraged them to work tirelessly, like ants against giants," he remarked.
"We executed all the tactics honed in training. The boys maintained their composure, securing a hard-earned victory," he added.
Looking ahead to the semifinals, Wabuyabo expressed determination to secure a decisive win propelling them to the final.
"We're geared up for any challenge in the semis. Tomorrow, victory is non-negotiable as we strive to defend our title," he affirmed confidently.
