A woman has been arrested and charged with violating a corpse after she wheeled her dead uncle into a Brazilian bank to secure a loan.

According to the Guardian, Érika de Souza Vieira was also charged with attempted theft through fraud.

Commenting on the incident on a news program, investigating officer Fábio Luiz Souza said 68-year-old Paulo Roberto Braga had been dead for at least two hours.

"I have never come across a story like this in 22 years [as a cop]," Souza added on the Tuesday incident.

He said Baraga already had visible signs of livor mortis.

Details of the shocking incident indicated that the 42-year-old had walked to a teller's desk and tried to take out 17,000 reais (about $3,200).

Bank employees then became concerned with the woman's actions as she tried to get her dead uncle to sign a document.

They called the police who arrested her on the scene.
