The Kenya National Highways Authority has announced a 12-hour closure of Kedong Ranch - Suswa Road.

The Authority said the closure follows heavy debris and silt on the road covering a distance of two kilometres caused by persistent heavy rainfall.

KeNHA said the closure for the next 12 hours is to facilitate smooth clearing operations.

"The Authority staff have been working tirelessly to clear the section. However, the continuous heavy rainfall has resulted in significant deposits of fresh silt and debris, rendering the road impassable," KeNHA said.

The Authority cautioned road users against any attempts to use the section of the road in the interest of their safety.

KeNHA advised motorists to utilise alternative routes, specifically the Narok - Mau Narok - Nakuru (B18) Road and the Kaplong - Kericho - Mau Summit - Nakuru Road.

"We remain committed to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage of goods and services for economic prosperity."

Earlier, KeNHA closed the Athi River-Namanga road at the Kimalat area after flooding occasioned by overnight heavy downpour caused River Kimalat to burst its banks.

The Authority said alternative routes through earth roads had equally flooded.

"The Authority cautions road users against any attempts to use these affected areas in the interest of their safety," Director General Kung'u Ndung'u warned.

Ndung'u later issued an update saying the road was now open for use after the flood waters had subsided.

He, however, advised road users to exercise caution when approaching Kimalat area.
