I am not concerned by efforts by some MPs to impeach me over the alleged fertiliser fiasco, Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi has said.

Speaking in Central Imenti, Meru county on Sunday, the CS told residents that he is not troubled or intimated by the moves made by the lawmakers.

The CS instead asserted that he understands his role as the Agriculture docket boss and he only reports to President William Ruto.

Linturi further promised that by the end of the week, clarity on the alleged fake fertiliser fiasco will have been achieved.

"So nyinyi musinihurumie mimi, sitaki wale wananiandikia message  oh pole. Pole nini. Mimi niko kwa serikali na Rais anajua ile kazi  nafanya sasa unafikiria mimi ntu wakutishwa," said Linturi.

Loosely translated as  "Don't pity me, I don't want a pity party so stop sending me empathetic messages. I am in government and the President is aware of my work. Do you think I'm someone who can be intimidated?"

The sale of alleged fake fertiliser to farmers took a twist in Parliament this week after at least 110 MPs signed a motion to impeach CS Linturi.

Bumula MP Wanami Wamboka, who sponsored the motion, officially wrote to Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Wednesday, seeking approval of the motion.

The move is a major threat to Linturi’s tenure in the Cabinet as several MPs from President William Ruto's UDA are backing the bill.

The motion is seconded by Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere.

The petition alleges that Linturi is guilty of gross violation of the Constitution by failing to undertake public participation before proceeding with the procurement and distribution of fertiliser.

The Bumula MP urged his colleagues to support his motion once it is approved by the Speaker.

He pledged to not be compromised, disclosing that he has been receiving emissaries to drop the impeachment bid since he started.

“We are awaiting approval so it goes to the House Business Committee. We are looking at either Tuesday or Wednesday next week and we are done with Linturi,” Wanami stated.

“We have enough grounds to impeach Linturi. This is a moral question, there is no Azimio or Kenya Kwanza. We have no problem with the President.”

However, Central Imenti MP Kirima Nguchine who spoke at the fundraiser urged Linturi to soldier on and focus on delivering his mandate to Kenyans, blaming the attacks on him as plots by some MPs to destabilise the government.
