The National Assembly Agriculture Committee led by Nyando MP Jared Okello has said that CS Mithika Linturi will know his impeachment fate after the committee concludes their probe into the supply of alleged fake fertiliser at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) stores.

Okello's comment comes a day after 110 Members of Parliament led by Bumula legislator Jack Wamboka appended signatures seeking to remove CS Linturi from office.

Speaking at Bungoma NCPB stores on Friday, MP Okello reported that the Agriculture committee is still carrying out investigations on the supply of alleged fake fertilisers across the country.

“We are still investigating the matter, in one or two weeks’ time we shall be retreating to write a report on our findings, there have been advances in people collecting signatures with a bid to impeach CS Linturi from office as a committee we wouldn’t wish to rush before we finish these investigation exercises and compile a report,” Okello said.

Okello further said if Parliament wishes to remove Linturi by impeachment then the Agriculture Committee won’t stop them asserting that there are vivid terms and conditions upon which a person can be found liable for such kinds of criminal activities and accusations.

“There are people who are advancing the collection of the impeachment signatures probably they have more evidence than us and therefore we will wait and see what happens with those signatures and whether the Speaker of the National Assembly will give a nod in line with the standing orders for that impeachment proceeding to take shape,” MP Okello stated.

In addition, Okello stated that from the committee’s standpoint, they will wait until a comprehensive report is done upon which the country will now decide based on the committee’s recommendations.

“Part of that recommendation will be to take very drastic measures and recommend prosecution to those who will be found culpable in this kind of trade, supply of fake fertiliser is an illegal trade. It’s a criminal nature and therefore the prosecutorial and investigating bodies must quickly swing into action so that we can put a stop to this kind of clandestine businesses mushrooming within us,” he said.

He said that the committee is moving around the country talking to farmers on a fact-finding mission.
