Suspects in the Sh140 million tender irregularities involving former Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria and his wife Jane have been summoned to court on Monday next week for plea-taking.

Milimani Anti-corruption court magistrate Zipporah Gichana on Tuesday issued summons for the suspects to appear in court on April 29.

They include Patrick Mukuria, Jane Mbuthia, David Kiama, David Njeru, Peter Karanja, Top Image Consultants and Value View Limited.

"The court issues summons for the second, third, fourth, fifth, eighth, ninth and tenth accused persons to appear in court to take plea," the magistrate said.

Wa Iria, his wife Jane Kimani and her brother Solomon Kimani are the other suspects.

They will not be part of those taking plea in the matter next week after the High Court in Murang’a issued orders stopping their arrest and prosecution.

Jane and her brother Solomon were arrested in Wednesday last week and arraigned at Milimani court in connection with the probe into the Sh40 million Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission probe.

The two are directors of one of the companies allegedly used as a conduit for the scheme.

They were however released by Anti-Corruption Court chief magistrate Thomas Nzyoki after their lawyers produced the order from the Murang’a high court stopping their prosecution in the matter.

"Proceedings before this court stand stayed pending the outcome before the Murang'a High Court," Nzyoki said.
