The UDA National Executive Committee has approved an amendment to party constitution to create one office of deputy party leader and two offices of assistant deputy part leaders.

The party said the move seeks to align the party’s structural leadership with the national governance structure.

President William Ruto who is also the party leader chaired the NEC meeting on Friday.

Secretary general Cleophas Malalah said the NEC also sanctioned a detailed review of the party constitution, the nomination rules among other policy documents for further deliberations and approval by the National Delegates Congress (NDC).

“In totality, the committee applauded the party secretariat for its steadfast commitment to democratic reforms, institutional development and remarkable involvement of its members in the oversight of the Party’s and Coalition ideals of ‘Bottom-up-Economic Approach’ in government,” Malalah said.

He noted that the meeting also discussed the ongoing grassroots elections.

He said the committee applauded the National Elections Board for the successful commencement of the grassroots election that will continue in three different phases as scheduled.

“The committee noted the innovative and unprecedented technology voting system that the UDA has deployed in the ongoing election and approved its reinforcement and improvement for use in future party nomination elections,” he said.

Malalah further said the committee also approved budgetary appropriation, human resource placements, scheduled programmes and outreach activities for the party and the establishment of progressive democratic engagements within and outside the country to enhance UDA’s sturdiness, influence and political leadership.

Five counties; Nairobi, West Pokot, Homabay, Busia and Narok went to the polls on April 26 in phase one of the UDA party’s grassroots election.

The election was purely electronic and 5,000 tablets were used in the polls.
