The school officials reported to police the Grade 6 pupil was brought out of the pool “feeling unwell”.

The instructors tried to do first aid on him in vain.

He was rushed to a nearby health centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Senior police officers visited the hospital where the body of the boy was lying before it was moved to the mortuary.

Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident in which a 68-year-old woman was killed in a village in Malindi, Kilifi County.

This is the latest such incident whereby the elderly are being targeted and killed in the area.

Police said the body of Dama Baya Mwaruwa was found in her bathroom long after she had been killed by unknown assailants.

Her sons reported she was attacked and killed as she took a bath and the motive is yet to be known.

The sons told police they rushed her to Gede dispensary and they were immediately referred to Malindi Subcounty Hospital, where she succumbed.

The body was moved to the same hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.

Police said three sons of the deceased and one grandson who were present when the incident occurred were arrested for interrogation.

Such incidents have been on the rise in the area amid calls to address the trend.

Police say they are pursuing all the cases reported to them amid calls on local leadership to intervene and save the situation.
