A form four student drowned during a steaming off session in Kirinyaga county on Saturday.
The student at Mugoiri Girls Secondary School in Muranga county was in the company of her mother, fellow students and board members(both teaching and non-teaching staff).
The annual trip for candidates in the school turned tragic after two students fell into the water and were rescued by a parent and teachers.
However, attempts to resuscitate one of them turned futile and she was rushed to Kerugoya Level 5 hospital.
"By the time we got to the hospital she was pronounced dead," Susan Mundia the school principal told the Star.
"We always have this activity every year to help them cool off from the pressure before they sit for KCSE," Mundia said.
"We were with her even when we were trying to resuscitate the student. We are currently in the mortuary."
Mundia said the postmortem results revealed that she succumbed during drowning.
