Principal Secretary of State Department of Livestock Development Jonathan Mweke has said no bill is proposing the licensing of farmers who rear animals.

"Fake news by enemies of progress," the PS said through an X post.

"Msiuziwe uoga na propagandists," another post read.

The flagged poster card, designed by a local media house alleged Kenyans rearing farm animals will now be required to pay a Sh500,000 fine if found without a license.

The card further alleged the fine will be due to the newly proposed Animal Production Professionals and Technicians Bill 2023

"Kenyans to pay Sh500,000 fine or serve six months in jail or both for rearing farm animals without a license," part of the card stated.

On the post of the card,  it further alleged that Kenyans seeking a license will have to apply at the Animal Production Professionals Board and wait for approval within a stipulated period after paying the set fee.

"Any person who carries out animal production services without having been registered under the Act, or otherwise contravenes any provisions of this Part, commits an offence and shall be liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding Ksh500,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or to both," the post read.

In addition, the post claimed that each license issued shall be valid from January 1 to December 31.
