Kariuki new government spokesman
President Mwai Kibaki has named Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s communication consultant Muthui Kariuki as the new government spokesman. Muthui was appointed to replace Dr Alfred Mutua who quit in August to contest the Machakos county governor.
“I am pleased to inform you that his Excellency President Mwai Kibaki has approved your appointment as public communication secretary/government spokesman with immediate effect,” reads a letter to Muthui by head of civil service Francis Kimemia dated 22 November.
He formerly worked for the Kenya Breweries in corporate communications before he quit and joined President Kibaki’s 2002 election campaign as chief of communications.
Muthui was then highly touted to become the head of Presidential Press Service but Isaiah Kabira was appointed in 2003 instead.
Kariuki was elevated to the position of Vice President’s communication adviser in 2010 holds a Public Relations degree and is due to graduate with a Masters in Media Studies from the University of Nairobi next week. He is also Managing Director at PR Masters Ltd.
He will now take over the Office of Public Communications where he will be tasked with the responsibility of handling all media relations on behalf of the government.
