'The honour of your presence is requested….’ read in part the elegant, crystal embedded invitation card to the ceremony that would unite in holy matrimony Dr Susan Akello Mboya and Evans Odhiambo Kidero. Dr Mboya is an executive at Coca Cola and daughter of the legendary trade unionist and politician Tom Mboya while Kidero is the CEO of Mumias Sugar Company.
White tulips and roses adorned the pillars and walkway of the All Saints Cathedral for the evening ceremony as Susan took the walk marking the end of singlehood. Accompanied by her sister Lady Justice Maureen Odero who also served as her best maid, she looked every bit the beautiful princess. Before an elite congregation that included Prof Githu Muigai, Njenga Karume and Ayub Savula, Susan and Evans promised to love and cherish one another.
An invite only pre-dinner cocktail and a black tie formal reception soon followed at the Laico Regency where the ballroom had been converted into a winter wonderland. Prime Minister Raila Odinga in his speech congratulated the two and wished them well in their new life. He was accompanied by his wife Ida. Evans' son Ronald Kidero who spoke on behalf of the family welcomed Susan as the newest addition and promised to support them in their married life.
At the after-party dubbed 'Fire and Ice', Susan and Evans could not keep their eyes off each other and the love between them was very evident especially during their first dance to Luther Vandross “I’d rather”. We wish them all the very best in their new journey together.
