Photojournalist Boniface Mwangi was on Tuesday evening awarded the media and arts honor as the curtains for the Spread the Love Campaign came down. Boniface was awarded mainly because of his efforts to spread messages of hope and peace through his Picha Mtaani Initiative.

Boniface known for his crusade against tribal politics urged the guests in attendance to spread peace messages ahead of the 2012 elections. “Lets avoid repeating a scene similar to the 2007 post elections chaos. We should not let the politicians drag us into fighting each other,” he said.

Boniface, the first Kenyan photojournalist to win the CNN Multichoice Journalist Award, has previously had some of his post poll chaos photos have been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Sunday Times, International Herald Tribune and BBC Focus on Africa Magazine among other publications.

This was the first ever colorful Spread the Love Honors Night, where ordinary persons who have done extra ordinary things in the society were be recognized and rewarded.
