Mwingi DC says house no hideout

Tuesday, April 29, 2014 - 00:00 -- BY LYDIA NGOOLO

Mwingi district commissioner Muzne Abdullatif has dismissed claims that an old deserted buildings in Mwingi town are being used as criminal hideouts. Muzne was reacting to a story carried by the Star yesterday urging the police to investigate old deserted buildings.

"This is a lie and you may even make senior people shy away from visiting this area. Please be careful on security matters. This house has never raised a security concern. Kenya is facing security threats and we should not raise false alarms," said Muzne during a media briefing with security personnel at the building.

She said reports that the building hosts members of al Shabaab and is used to manufacture bombs are false. Last week, residents told the Star they suspect something fishy has been going on in the house.

Muzne said they have combed the building and established there is nothing to be afraid of. He said the Star should record a statement with the deputy DCIOs on the story.
