Inspector General David Kimaiyo has said journalists will be prosecuted over how they cover the rescue operations during the siege at the Westgate shopping centre.

Kimaiyo last night said that KTN’s coverage of the conduct of security agent’s during the rescue operation in its 'Jicho Pevu' investigative series was in violation of Article 33 of the constitution.

He said Article 33 limits journalists to a certain extent and warned that “If you are one of the people in KTN carrying out such offences, we cannot fail to come for you, we will deal with you firmly.”

Kimaiyo also warned other media houses over their coverage stating that “there are things you do not need to expose to the media. We need to value the lives of other people.”

The expose by KTN allegedly showed KDF looting from shops at the mall although the Chief of the Defence Forces General Julius Karangi said the soldiers seen in the footage were only carrying bottles of water in the plastic shopping bags.

Asked to explain what the soldiers were doing in the footage showing them ransacking safes and drawers, Karangi explained that they were conducting a "sanitization exercise" to ensure the 'safety of the place.'
