New book on Kenya’s real estate sector
A new book on real estate in Kenya is set to hit the shelves in July. The book titled “The ABC of investing in real estate in Kenya: The Law, The Logic, The Math” will tackle the basics that a potential buyers needs to know before leaping into the market. The author, Kariuki Waweru, seeks to explain laws relating to real estate in the country, the logic that a buyer should apply before making a purchase and the math one should do before investing.
The book borrows a lot from the laws of Kenya, including land and the constitution, housing and the professionals involved in construction. It will also cover land Search, property management, property tax, tenant rights, the Will, trust land, compulsory acquisition of private land by the government, and sectional property ownership.
The author also tackles emerging issue in the country’s flagging property market such as gated communities, land speculation, home insurance, mortgage finance, valuation and conveyance. The author is an experienced real estate consultant both locally and internationally. He studied Land Economics at the University of Nairobi and is currently working as a property valuer and real estate investment advisor with Arkade Africa. He also blogs and writes for property magazines.
