Kenya Power to increase pre-paid units

Kenya Power plans to start using prepaid meters for all new power connections beginning the next financial year.This move will target small and medium sized customers who consume less than 2,000 units per month.

The power distributor has already converted 340,000 customers from post paid to prepaid metering system since it was introduced four years ago.

It targets to migrate 520,000 more customers by end of the financial year.The company’s chief engineer in charge of Prepaid Metering, John Wekesa, said it recently contracted three super vendors to increase purchase outlets for its growing number of prepaid customers.

However, mobile money services seems remains the preferred mode of payment.
