Celebrations at Ruto’s home after Jubilee victory

Monday, March 11, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY MATHEWS NDANYI

The win by Jubilee in the just concluded polls attracted celebrations in the Eldoret and the North Rift region which is home to Deputy President-elect William Ruto.

Ruto's home at Sugoi Village in Turbo Constituency was a bee hive of activities as hundreds of neighbours and other visitors streamed to celebrate.

"Its a win for all of us and we believe the jubilee team has greater potential to unite this country and bury tribalism among other problems we have been facing as a country,"said former Eldoret Mayor William Rono.

Security was however tight in most areas as police went round to ensure everything went on peacefully. Governors elect for Uasin Gishu Jackson Mandago and his counterpart for Elgeyo Marakwet Alex Tolgos joined those who congratulated President elect Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto.

"We now have a team of young energetic leaders who will really transform this country and we will work as a team to move forward,"said Tolgos.

He said uniting the country and embarking on development should be prioritised so that all Kenyans can enjoy benefits of the jubilee victory.

Nandi Governor elect Cleophas Lagat congratulated the incoming government and the IEBC for carrying out a successful election despite the few challenges it faced initially. Church leaders in the North Rift have praised the peace that prevailed during the elections.
