The Safari Park Hotel on Sunday evening was home of a unique dinner as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Kim Hwang-Sik met with local Korean investors. The premier is the first Korean prime minister to visit Kenya. He was set to meet Kenyan officials including the President and Prime Minister yesterday.

Many Kenyans have fond memories of Korea as in 1998, during the Seoul Olympics when our athletes came back home in triumph. In spite of the turbulent times in the world economy Korea has been exhibiting strong growth with manufacturing and telecommunications taking a strong lead.

As the African economy improves Korea has been looking to expand into the region. Direct flights were recently introduced from Seoul to Nairobi with much fun fare and primitive energy locally and this visit from South Korea's highest ranking official showed the commitment to that cause. The prime minister in a speech to Korean investors lauded them and asked the to remain proud of the part they played in the development of ties between the countries.
