A middle-aged woman died yesterday in a road accident which involved a pick up and a bicycle. The accident occurred at Nguutani Market in Mwingi.
“The woman died on the spot. She was cycling from Nguutani on her way to home when the pick up ran into the woman,” said Mwingi police boss Simon Birir.
Birir said the woman was a teacher at a private school in Nguutani. He said the bicycle was crashed beyond repair. The police chief said the cyclist's death came shortly just after a boda boda operator died in a head collision at Nguutani Market.
Birir said the motorbike rider was hit by an oncoming bus. The body of the woman was taken to Mwingi District Hospital mortuary.
He said the body of a woman has been taken to Mwingi mortuary awaiting postmortem. He said they have launched the investigation to arrest the driver of the pickup because he disappeared after the accident. “However we have the pickup which will help us get him arrested if he does not bring himself to the police station,” said Birir.
