DEAD ON ARRIVAL

RAHIM DAWOOD: Linturi will not be impeached

We will mobilise our members to reject this

In Summary

•I see a hidden hand in the motion by my colleague.

•Why not go after the PS who is the accounting officer of the department.

Bumula MP Wamboka Wanami is not going anywhere with his bid to impeach Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi.

Those signatures that he claims to have collected will need to be checked.

Even if the motion gets to the floor, it will be defeated. The Cabinet Secretary is not the Kenya Bureau of Standards to ascertain compliance.

You cannot link him to the supply of the fake fertilizer. Unless there is proof linking him to the fertilizer, I don't think there is any case. In my view, this is a fishing expedition.

We have had those issues before in the past parliaments. There was an impeachment motion by MP Geoffrey Odanga (Matayos) who tried to remove Jacob Kaimenyi, who is from my constituency, from the seat of Education Cabinet Secretary and nothing came out of it.

As MPs from Meru and as Kenya Kwanza, we will be supporting one of our own. I will lobby for Mithika and mobilise our members to reject the motion.

Personally, I have not seen where he's gone wrong. He did not sign the contract. He did not manufacture the questioned fertilizer. The CS has not even occasioned any loss. Where does he come in? Where's the loss?

If financial, the National Cereals Produce Board (NCPB) has said they are compensating.

The persons pushing for this impeachment should let investigation agencies do their work. If they finds a case against the minister, they can proceed and prosecute.

The grand question here is: what has he done? Why not bring the involved agencies like NCPB, Kebs, and the distributor?

They should bring the involved parties to book. And again, why the Cabinet Secretary and not the Principal Secretary who is the accounting officer? I see a hidden hand in this thing. Some people want to hit the minister to score points.

Why is there little being told about Mems Distributors. We should be told who they are.

Did they set up the minister? We will mobilize MPs from Meru, and from across the board including our friends in Azimio as we know Kenya Kwanza MPs may not be seeing eye-to-eye with the minister. All in all, the motion is not going anywhere.
