In an unusual turn of events, doctors in Eldoret on Monday decided to pray for patients and the Kenya Kwanza government as part of the ongoing demonstrations.

The medics asked for forgiveness for opting to down their tools and leave patients struggling to regain their health in the hospitals.

They also petitioned God to impart the government with compassion so they could sort out their differences.

"Mungu tunaomba msamaha kwa sababu tumeacha wagonjwa wetu kwa hospitali bila madaktari," the doctor praying begins.

This is loosely translated to, "God we pray for forgiveness for leaving our patients without doctors in the hospitals."

They continued: "God we would like to bring this government that you chose before you. You know the president, the minister (cabinet secretary) and all officials who have refused to adhere to the doctors' CBA.

Father God, we pray, in Jesus' Name, that you may give them compassion so they can come up with solutions to the doctors' challenges, so they can post interns and pay fees for medical students.

This is so we (doctors) can go back to the hospitals and attend to our patients. This we pray believing in Jesus Name."

The prayers took place outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The demos on the streets of Eldoret were led by KMPDU officials, with branch chairman Dr Kamonzi Mulei at the front.
