The Kenya National Highways Authority has provided alternative route options for revelers heading to Naivasha ahead of the World Rally Championships (WRC).

"With the World Rally Championship zooming into town this Easter, we are gearing up for an adrenaline–packed weekend. Usikwame kwa jam. We’ve got your back with some exciting alternative routes," KENHA wrote on X.

The routes, according to KENHA are; the scenic route, the adventure route, the Thika trail and the Suswa shortcut.

Motorists using the scenic route will pass through Rironi from Nairobi then pass through Flyover (Magumu) to Ol Kalou, Ol Joro Orok then through Lanet to Naivasha.

Those opting for the adventure route will also go through Rironi from Nairobi then pass through Naivasha as they head to Engineer, then Ol Kalou to Ol Joro Orok to get to Lanet.

The Thika trail will take motorists from Nairobi to Thika to Magumu then to Ol Kalou and then to Lanet through Ol Joro Orok.

The Suswa shortcut will have motorists driving from Nairobi through Ngong Town to Kibiko and then Suswa.

KENHA has asked motorists intending to use the Suswa shortcut to beware of a gravel stretch that may only be favourable for four-by-four vehicles.

The alternative routes, according to KENHA, are expected to relieve traffic jams on the road as Kenyans flock to Naivasha to watch the safari rally.

On Monday, March 25, the National Police Service said they were ready to help in easing the flow of traffic on the road ahead of the rally.

Deputy Traffic Commandant of Police Gifinalis Baraza said police will be deployed on the Nairobi-Naivasha route to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Baraza said: “Police officers will be deployed along the entire route to ensure the safety of participants and road users from March 29 to April 1 April. Parking lorries and trucks by the roadside, especially at Mai Mahiu and Kikopey will not be allowed. Alternate parking will be provided.”

Motorists headed towards Nyanza and Western are advised to use the Narok route through Mai Mahiu.

“Motorists heading towards Nakuru from Central Kenya are advised to divert at Thika and proceed via the Safaricom Foundation route through to Olakalau, Njambini and Lanet,” he said.

“There will be no overlapping along the Nairobi -Naivasha/Nakuru road from March 27 and the Mai Mahiu route to April 1.”

There will be limited use of side roads “and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.”
