Petrol tanker bursts into flames in Machakos

A petrol tanker burst into flames at Masii Town in Machakos County.

Machakos County police commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan said the vehicle accidentally caught fire while delivering petrol to a local filling station within the town on Thursday.

Napeiyan said the incident happened at around 4.00 am. It was reported to Masii police station as an emergency petroleum fire incident report.

"The incident involved a petrol tanker that was delivering fuel to a local filling station within Masii Township. Police responded to the scene," Napeiyan said.

The police boss said the Machakos County fire engine response team with the help of police and the public helped put out the fire.

Napeiyan said preliminary assessment had revealed that there was neither danger to life nor properties around the scene of the incident.

"So far, no casualty nor damage to other properties has been reported," Napeiyan said.

Napeiyan said the cause of the fire was yet to be established.
