The national government will today meet the nurses’ union to decide if they will sign and register the CBA to end the strike.
If signed, the CBA whose content is similar to that negotiated by the county governments will see nurses on the national government payroll resume duties.
This comes after the nurses’ union on Tuesday met Health PS Julius Korir and the director of Health Services Jackson Kioko to iron out the issues concerning the strike.
Among the nurses on the national government payroll are those working at spinal injury hospitals, Mathari Teaching and Referral Hospital and the blood bank unit.
Kenya National Union of Nurses acting Secretary General Maurice Opetu said they hope the deal will also resolve the dispute between the union and the Council of Governors. The nurses’ union criticised the unwillingness of the counties to address the strike that has entered its 18th day.
