Tension is still high in parts of Marigat where clashes between two communities over boundary disputes have led to the killing of two people. Rift Valley PC Osman Warfa said security has been beefed up in the area to quell the violence. During the clashes between Ilichamus and Endorois communities, a standard seven pupil was shot dead by raiders at Kiserian village. Marigat DC Saul Muywaya said the dispute over the creation of Muchongoi constituency.
More than 3,500 people have been rendered homeless following the dispute that has forced them to flee from retaliatory attacks. Some of the women and children who have fled from their homes have sought refuge at Kisiela Primary School. Three schools in the area have been closed down due to the clashes. Warfa, who met elders from the two communities in Nakuru, said he is planning to hold a peace meeting in the area.
The Endorois community has backed the creation of the Muchongoi constituency but the Ilichamus want the new electoral area to be renamed. The National Cohesion and Integration Commission has also been alerted about the raging dispute and the commission, chaired by Mzalendo Kibunjia, will participate in peace meetings to reconcile the communities. Warfa said the boundary dispute will be sorted out adding that it should not be used to fuel clashes and bloodshed. "We have to resolve such disputes through dialogue," said Warfa.
