Kibiwot ready to reclaim Kip Keino Classic steplechase title

Kibiwot, who won the 2020 and 2021 editions, will use the event as part of his training ahead of the Diamond League opening leg in Doha, Qatar, on May 10.

Commonwealth Games 3,000m steeplechase champion Abraham Kibiwot will be chasing a third title at the fifth edition of the Kip Keino Classic at the Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.

Kibiwot, who won the 2020 and 2021 editions, will use the event as part of his training ahead of the Diamond League opening leg in Doha, Qatar, on May 10.

“I want to reclaim my title. I won back-to-back in 2020 and 2021 before losing in 2022 and 2023. I am well prepared for the race,” said Kibiwot, the world 3,000m steeplechase bronze medallist.

He revealed a packed-up schedule to culminate with the Olympic Games in Paris, France.

He finished second last year in 8:09.71 behind Amos Kirui (8:08.45) while Leonard Bett finished third in 8:10.2.

After the Kip Keino, Kibiwott will head for the Diamond League in Doha and then Rabat.

“I always compete in Doha and it has become my best event. Doha will be a precursor for Rabat, then the national trials for the Olympics. I want to ensure I dominate the season considering I am currently enjoying top form,” he said.
