Council of Governors Chairperson Anne Waiguru has dismissed the planned Limuru III meeting terming it as untimely and one that would not address Mt Kenya issues.

Waiguru maintained that Mt Kenya is solidly behind President William Ruto, whom he said has the region’s interests at heart.

She said the organisers of the meeting had no development agenda for the region.

"The elections are over and those who lost in the contest are now trying to take the country back to elections mood when the mountain region wants delivery of services,” she said.

The Friday meeting will bring together professionals and businessmen from Mt. Kenya as well as religious organisations to chart the region's path.

Organisers say that at least 30 political parties from the Mt. Kenya region have so far confirmed their attendance.

Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua and Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni have maintained that the Limuru III Conference slated for this Friday will go on as planned.

The two, who got the endorsement of the Kikuyu Council of Elders, said the conference would be issue-based and open to all attendees.

According to the organisers, the conference will audit dipping business fortunes in Mt. Kenya which they attributed to government policies as well as forging a united front, despite differences amongst their own political formations.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah have dismissed the meeting.

Speaking after distributing relief food at Wang'uru town in Mwea Constituency on Thursday, Waiguru, who is also the Kirinyaga governor said the meeting was planned by political self-seekers.

She said the meeting will not have any impact on the needs of the people in the region.

The governor added that when the time comes the region will convene a meeting to deliberate and chart on way forward, but said the planned Limuru meeting was premature, three years to elections.

She said the governors in the region had already submitted proposals on the increase of resources in the region.
