Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that the first Peace Summit will be held from June 15 to June 16.
The summit according to Zelensky will be held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.
In a statement on Thursday, the Ukrainian President said the summit, which will include several Heads of state and government from across the world, will be a stage to discuss the various ways his country can achieve lasting peace.
He said the framework developed from the summit is also aimed at inspiring future peace processes.
“Heads of state and government from all continents are invited and expected to attend. The summit will serve as a platform to discuss ways to achieve comprehensive, just, and lasting peace for Ukraine in accordance with the UN Charter and international law,” he said.
Zelensky noted that all invited countries have demonstrated their commitment to upholding international law in pursuit of peace.
He added that the Peace Summit extends beyond just Ukraine, which is why it is of interest to every peace-loving nation in the world.
“It is about every nation’s global role, as well as genuine respect for international law and peaceful coexistence throughout the world. These common rules, enshrined in the UN Charter, protect all nations from attack and violence," Zalensky said.
“It is thus our shared global responsibility to protect them through real action rather than just words. This is what the first Peace Summit in Switzerland is all about."
At least 160 delegations are expected to attend the Summit.
According to news agency, Swissinfo, Russia will not be among the expected participants in the Peace Summit.
Russia had previously indicated that it would not be part of the talks.
While Swiss authorities said it would not be ideal to have Russia in the talks “at this stage” they insist that participation is equally important in the future.
"A peace process without Russia is not possible," the authorities said.
Switzerland announced in January that it would host a peace summit at the request of President Zelensky.
It has already held talks with the European Union and G7 member states over Ukraine.
The summit comes even as President Zelensky has previously proposed a 10-point peace formula to end the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, escalating the Russo-Ukrainian war that started in February 2014.
