Kitengela farmer Mzee David Tipatet is counting losses after four hyenas invaded his home Thursday morning and killed 10 sheep.

He said the family was asleep when he was woken by movement noises in his sheep pen at 4.30am and went out to check.

Tipatet said when he approached the sheep pen, he saw four hyenas escaping through an opening they had dug into the pen.

“I counted 10 dead sheep that had been killed by the hyenas,” he said.

He said the hyenas also injured seven other sheep, which forced him to slaughter them because of the extent of the injuries.

The attack on the sheep took place at Emakoko village in Oloosirkon/Sholinke Ward, which borders the Nairobi National Park.

Tipatet said he called the local Game scouts after the attack but they had not arrived by midday Thursday.

He put the the loss at Sh200,000.

“I sell them to pay fees for my children in high school. We have just come out of a devastating drought which killed all my cows. I'm a bitter man after this incident,” Tipatet said.
