Home golfer Jacintah Wambugu and Muthaiga Golf Club’s Rose Catherine combined for an impressive 48 Stableford points win at the 2024 Karen Ladies Invitation at Karen Country Club.
Over 200 players, pairing locals with guests, featured in the tournament, played in a greensomes format over 18 holes.
Kabura Kamau, also of Karen, and Limuru Golf Club’s Agnes Nyambura, were second with 41 points. Karen’s Nekoye Inzaule and Royal Golf Club’s Cherotich Murgor beat Karen’s Carol Karanja and Vet Lab’s Rehema Mohamed to third place on countback after 40 points.
“We had a good day with Jacintah. We spotted each other’s strengths at the beginning and complemented one another very well,” said Catherine.
Wambugu said the weather played a key role in their win.
“Our fourball was just amazing. It was a bit slow on some holes, otherwise, it was a beautiful day, graced by beautiful weather for what was a beautiful event,” she noted.
Lillian Marema from Karen and Vet Lab’s Nancy Njiraini clinched the best first-nine title with 21 points.
Karen’s Lucy Murage and Limuru’s Hannah Gatu secured the best second nine award with 24 points.
Marya Nyambura from Karen and Cherono Kipkorir from Royal Nairobi Golf Club topped the junior category with 34 points.
Beth Kariuki and Louisa Gitau claimed the longest drive and nearest-to-the-pin award.
Karen lady captain Betty Gacheru, observed: “The 2024 Karen Ladies Invitation was a great success. The winners played well. I think that is a course record. They did not know each other beforehand but they still combined to play an amazing score of 48 points.”
