Okutoyi to skip Monastir Women's tennis tournament in Tunisia

She is the first Kenyan to compete in all the four prestigious junior Grand Slam tournaments.

Wimbledon doubles junior champion Angela Okutoyi has withdrawn from the Monastir Women's Futures tennis tournament slated for next week in Tunisia. 

Instead, the teen sensation will focus on the Women's Futures tournament at the Karen Club next month.

“I have opted to withdraw from the event in Tunisia to prepare for the Women's Futures tournament which is an equally big event for us in Kenya. I will have at least three weeks to prepare for the tournament and I am looking forward to playing in front of my fans and winning the tournament,” added Okutoyi. 

Okutoyi last played at the US Junior Open in New York in September and has been on a break since then. She believes the rest and recovery will help her during the women's tournament at Karen. 

“ I feel well rested and recharged after a long year. I am now back in training and ready to play the final tournament of the year,” added Okutoyi. 

She said she will be aiming to finish the year on a high note after mixed performances in the women's futures tennis tournaments tour this year. 

"It's been a challenging year on the circuit and I have had my ups and downs. However, I want to end the year on a high," added Okutoyi. 

Okutoyi made history this year when she became the first Kenyan to win a Grand Slam title after partnering with the Netherlands' Rose Nijkamp to win the Wimbledon doubles junior title on July 9 at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London.
