Ten clubs have confirmed participation in the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU)  Annual General Meeting slated for September 6.

The meeting was slated for March this year but the Registrar called off the meeting as most rugby clubs had not aligned to the Sports Act.

KRU secretary-general, Ian Mugambi, said he expects most clubs to comply with the Sports Act in the course of this month.

“So far, we have the minimum number but I believe the number will increase in the next fortnight as everyone will want to vote come to the election,” added Mugambi.

The meeting will be held physically at the RFUEA ground from 3 pm.

Part of the agenda of the meeting includes confirmation of the previous minutes and a look at the 2022 board's report.

The meeting will also review the 2021 audited financial statements and the appointment of auditors for the new year.

The race for vice chairman has attracted two candidates pitting Moses Ndale against Peris Mukoko. Ndale has served as women's director for the last four years while Mukoko has served as director for a similar term.

The race for the secretary-general's seat has attracted incumbent Ian Mugambi and Ochieng Ahaya.  Treasurer Joshua Aroni is the sole candidate for the position while incumbents Hillary Itela and Oscar Mango will seek to be re-elected as directors alongside Charles Chege.

Elsewhere, Kenya sevens playmaker Oscar Dennis has retired from rugby.

Through his social media account, Dennis said hanging his boots was one of the most difficult decisions he has had to make.

Dennis was involved in a hit and run accident in November 2020 in Karen, forcing him to seek medical attention in South Africa for a broken leg.

He was also part of the squad that did duty during Shujaa's victory at the 2019 Africa Cup  Sevens. He played 20 matches in the World Series,  scoring four tries. He retired at the age of 29.
