Impala RFC coach Frank Ndong blamed tactical indiscipline from his charges after a narrow 20-15 loss to Nakuru over the weekend.

Ndong, who saw his side slip out of the playoff positions from fifth to seventh, admitted his side has no one to blame but themselves. “Our poor tactical play in the second half cost us. We did not play in the right areas and we missed a lot of tackles,” added Ndong.

He said with three matches left, there is no margin of error. We play Strathmore, Machine and Kabras and therefore at the bare minimum, we must win two of the three games to qualify for the playoffs. Impala led 5-3 at the interval, thanks to a try by fullback Anthony Odhiambo with Geoffrey Ominde scoring a penalty for the visitors. Nakuru dominated the second half and were rewarded with tries by Gramwell Bunyasi, Crispin Onyango and Brian Mayaka.

Impala replied with unconverted tries through Eric Kerre and Bill Omondi. Nakuru coach Mitch Ocholla said: “It was a hard fought victory against quality opposition and it gives us momentum for our next match against Kabras next weekend.”

Impala have 35 points with Nakuru sixth on 37 points. Mwamba bounced back to winning ways with a 46-19 demolition of Homeboyz at the same venue. Kenya Sevens star Collins Injera scored a hat-trick of tries in the win which takes Mwamba to fifth on 38 points. Quins drew 22-22 with Menengai Oilers to stay third on the log with 44 points. Champions KCB thrashed Nondies 50-5 to earn a measure of revenge after the white shirts had beaten them 27-20 earlier in the season. Kabras stay top of the table on points difference after thrashing Blak Blad 67-0.
