Kenya Rugby Union secretary Oduor Gangla has promised to revitalise the technical capacity of the game in the country if elected as chairman during next week's polls.

Gangla said there is a lack of adequate coaches for a sport that has witnessed significant growth in the last decade.

"One of the biggest challenges we are facing in the country as far as the game is concerned is lack of coaches to coach the young people who are getting into the game and its one priority I will seek to address once elected as chairman,” added Gangla

He promised to restructure the Union, saying: "We have a large student population at the universities and we have a lot of players who don't make it to the university teams so we need to look at the model again and see how we can tap that talent.”

On national teams, Gangla said he is keen on introducing Kenya 'A' squad for the 15s team to bolster the national teams and provide a pathway for growth.

"We need to create depth and it's something am looking at as a way of boosting our options for the 15s game,” added Gangla.

Gangla dismissed the notion of misappropriation of funds at the union during his stint as director.

"There is notion doing rounds that the board is corrupt but we are above board and if people want to inspect our books, we are very much open,” he added.

He noted that the board has been able to bring in sponsors like Stanbic Bank, Bidco and Radio Africa Group.

"We have been able to bring a couple of sponsors for the past one year which has helped us especially with this tough economic times,” added Gangla.

He added that despite the turbulence in the past couple of months, he is the best candidate for the job.

“Despite the turbulence, we have been able to do a lot. I am a servant leader and I want rugby to leave an impact on people's lives."
