The organisers of the 2023 Myshujaa golf tournament are keen to use last weekend's event at the Kakamega Sports Club as a launchpad for junior golf in western region.

Julius Oketch said their main aim is to build capacity for junior golfers in the hunt for future pros.

“It has been a great day where we had 80 golfers, which is a good turn-out. Our main aim is to develop junior players with an eye on the future,” said Oketch.

Edwin Mudanyi took the kids through the course at the annual event, sponsored by Bishop Oketch and Family.

“Mudanyi, a trained golf coach, will be training the kids,” added Oketch.

On Saturday, home player Charles Matete, off handicap 22, emerged the overall winner of the fifth edition of the tournament after carding 44 points.

Meanwhile, Oketch said they are planning to plant 3,000 trees in response to President William Ruto's call for Kenyans to plant 15 billion trees.
