Manji, Gitobu dominate US Kids Tour at Sigona Club

The tournament attracted over 100 junior golfers between the ages of five and 18 with some playing 18 holes and others playing 9 holes.

Junaid Manji and Wambui Gitobu won the boys' and girls' 15-18 years categories respectively during the fifth leg of the US Kids Golf Spring Local Tour at Sigona Club on Tuesday.

Manji played 18 holes with 82 strokes while Gitobu played 127 strokes in an event that attracted over 100 junior golfers between the ages of five and 18.

Manji was closely followed by Hansil Tank with 84 strokes and Kimani Gicheru (91 strokes).

In the boys, 13-14-year old group playing 18 holes, Maahir Patel finished first with 77 strokes, followed by Mitansh Thacker with 85 strokes and Shashwat Harish (87 strokes).

 Mwathi Gicheru won the 12-year-old group with 80 strokes over 18 holes. He was followed by Justin Ngeera (82) and Andrew Gathere (84). 

Yolanda Yu took first place in the girls' 13-14 years old category with 91 strokes ahead of Cherono Kipkorir (95) and Imani Njoki (99). 

 Sophia Nesbitt ruled the girls' 11-12 years old  (18 holes) with 87 strokes, followed by Brianna Ngecu (88) and Jewel Kaisha (95).

The tour also attracted Austrian golfer Rudolf Kuhnet who has been on a three-week tour of Africa and fielded his kids—10-year-old, Oscar Kuhnert and 8-year-old Allegra Kuhnert at the Sigona's leg.

Kuhnet family started in South Africa, then Uganda, and finally Kenya. Rudolf admitted the calibre of golf played in Kenya impressed him.

"I am really impressed with the quality of golf in Kenya. The kids played really well and the competition for my kids was tough. We were hoping for very good results here and go back to Austria with very good golf memories,” said Rudolf.
