After failing to recapture the Manchester Salver title in Eldoret last week, Simon Karari takes on Boniface Simwa at this weekend’s Linda Maji Mtaani Pro-Am golf tournament in Eldoret.

Karari, who placed 23rd during the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships Series, said he wants to redeem himself at the event.

Ugandan Michael Alunga won the  Manchester Salver after firing two under par 140.

Karari said the Eldoret tournament is key as he prepares for the Kiambu Open, another KAGC series meeting set for  November 19-20.

“My expectations are to play well and compete against the top professional golfers in Kenya. This will be part of my preparations for the Kiambu Open Golf tournament to be played on November 19 and 20,” said Karari.

“I have no reason not to play well since I have noticed the areas I messed up in during the championship. It is time to redeem myself. Over the weekend I suffered so much. I had poor shots and chipping while putting was the worst part of my game.”

He will be joined by KAGC series leader John Lejirma of Kenya Railways as well as home players led by captain Jackson Kiprono, Aron Kitur, Anand Lakhani, resident golfer Andrew Chelogoi and former marathoner Moses Tanui among others.

Simwa, now based at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Uganda, said playing at the Linda Maji tournament is part of the preparations for the Safari Tour Golf series in the run up to the 2023 Magical Kenya Open Golf Championships.

“This will be the best game for me because I have played on the course for a long time. Last weekend, I played alongside amateurs in the KAGC series and I found the course to be good. I want to play well come the weekend,” said Simwa.
