Kericho captain David Biegon and his Nandi Bears counterpart Kimeli Kenduiwo will lead North Rift golfers at this weekend’s Tea Field tournament at the par 72 Kericho Golf Club.

The event is part of the ongoing Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series.

In the absence of defending champion Michael Karanga, who is in Egypt with the Kenya team for the All Africa Golf Championships, the duo will lead other top amateurs ahead of the 2023 Magical Kenya Championships. Karanga is in Cairo with Balala, Dennis Maara and John Lejirma, battling for the African title.

The host captain Biegon said preparations for the event are in place and they expect they expect top amateurs to battle for the title.

Kimeli, who has not played in many KAGC events, said he wants to end the series in the top ten positions.

“This year, I have not played in many tournaments but my target is to finish in the top ten. I really want to play well in western Kenya meetings because it's hard to play in other regions owing to my work commitment,” said Kenduiwo.

He said he wants to gain more points to secure a better position at the end of the series. After Nandi Bears, he will travel to Kericho alongside Nelson Koech, Ely Barno, and junior player Zadock Tanui for the next leg.

Last year, Kiambu’s Karanga won the title when he fired eight under par 136, beating Nyali’s Adel Balala who managed five over par 149 and tied in second with Kenya Railways’ John Lejirma for podium positions.
