Ugandan Alunga rules in Vasco Da Gama Cup in Malindi

Ugandan golfer Michael Alunga won the inaugural Vasco Da Gama Cup at   the par 72 Malindi Golf Club over the weekend. 

In the 36-hole tournament, Alunga registered poor results on Saturday with three over par 75, finishing in the second position.

He tied with Sammy Mulama and Adel Balala with his second-day results of one under par 71 propelling him to the top with two over par 146 for the title. 

Alunga, who has been playing in many Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) golf series across the country, toppled Round One leader Isaac Makokha, the Deaflympics golf bronze medalist, who had one over par 73. 

Makokha failed to maintain his grip on his leadership, dropping to second with five over par 149 after firing four over par in the second round.

The Vet Lab Golf Club player beat Sammy Mulama to third with 11 over par 155 with Adel Balala finishing fourth.

 The Vasco Da Gama event is one of the new KAGC meetings that were added to the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) calendar at the start of the year.
